It's finally here! One of the most anticipated Magic sets of all time is releasing this month, Tales of Middle Earth, the long awaited Lord of the Rings crossover set is coming this month. Tales of Middle Earth is a straight to Modern set, and the first full crossover set since Adventures in the Forgotten Realms. Card previews for the set have already begun and will run until June 9th, there's already been some pretty amazing stuff spoiled from the set so I'd go check out the image gallery that WOTC has up!
This set also has a full suite of products released with it as well. Collector, Set, and Draft boosters are available as well as four new commander decks, a bundle, and a starter kit for anyone interested in starting magic! There's also going to be a traditional pre-release beginning June 16th at 6:30 PM and continuing to June 17th at Noon and 5:00 PM, and a final event on June 18th at 1:00 PM. With this set, we'll also be running some limited draft events on the following weekdays of pre-release. There'll be 3 drafts, one on Monday, June 19th at 6:30 PM, another on Tuesday, June 20th at 6:30 PM, another on June 21st at 6:30 PM, and two release celebration drafts on Friday, June 23rd at 6:30 PM and Saturday, June 24th at 1:00 PM.
There's some really special new art treatments in the set as well, Full art panorama-style cards depicting the major battles in The Lord of the Rings are available, and a new "Ring showcase" treatment is in the set as well. It's also of note, all collector boosters have a chance of containing a serialized ring card, they are as follows: 300 Elven Sol Rings Foil, 700 Dwarven Sol Rings Foil, 900 Human Sol Rings Foil, 3000 Nonfoil Elven Rings, 7000 Nonfoil Dwarven Rings, 9000 Nonfoil Human Rings, and finally an insanely rare 1 of 1 The One Ring.
It'll definitely add some spice to opening boosters, even if the chances at the One Ring are low. Boxes include some great "box-topper" cards as well, these are reprints of existing magic cards with a LOTR coat of paint, for example, one of the box-toppers is an Ancient Tomb reskinned as Balin's Tomb! That's all the information we have for now, stay updated with the spoilers for the set though, I think this is going to be a very special release.
