Pair A Dice Games Corner
Games Perfect for Two.
Two-player games have risen up to be a very prominent genre for board games. With Valentine's Day being around the corner, we thought to share our favorite two-player games to play with a partner.
Sky Team: Sky Team is a cooperative game, in which you play a pilot and co-pilot at the controls of an airliner. Your goal is to work together as a team to land your airplane in different airports around the world. To land your plane, you need to silently assign your dice to the correct spaces in your cockpit to balance the axis of your plane, control its speed, deploy the flaps, extend the landing gear, contact the control tower to clear your path, and even have a little coffee to improve your concentration enough to change the value of your dice.
The Lord of the Rings: Duel for Middle-Earth: In The Lord of the Rings - Duel for Middle-earth, two players face off to determine the fate of Middle-earth. One player embodies the Fellowship of the Ring, seeking to protect the free peoples and destroy the One Ring, while the other plays as Sauron, attempting to capture Frodo and Sam and overwhelm Middle-earth with his evil hordes. A game plays over 3 successive chapters that unfold similarly. On your turn, strengthen your Skills, hoard your treasure, stretch your presence across Middle-earth, rally Races to your cause, or advance the Quest of the Ring.
Onitama: Onitama is a two-player, perfect information abstract game with a random starting set-up. Each player has two open cards that each display a possible move for any of her pieces. There is a fifth card that cannot be used by either player. On a player's turn, they choose one of their cards, move one of their pieces according to the chosen card, and then replace the card they used with the fifth card. The other player then chooses one of their cards, moves accordingly, and exchanges that card with this fifth card — which is, of course, the card the first player just used.
Patchwork: In the past, patchwork piecing was a way to make use of leftover pieces of cloth to create clothing and quilts. Today, patchwork is a form of art, in which designers use precious fabrics to create beautiful textiles. To create a beautiful quilt, however, requires effort and time, In Patchwork, two players compete to build the most aesthetic (and high-scoring) patchwork quilt. Choose your patches carefully and keep a healthy supply of buttons to not only finish your quilt but to make it better and more beautiful than your opponent‘s. The 10th-anniversary edition of the game just released, with a new solo mode and new designs on the patches.
